Co-founder and President of Moxie Firecracker Films for over 12 years, Emmy Award-winning® filmmaker Rory Kennedy has produced more than 35 celebrated documentaries, covering topics from the global AIDS crisis, human rights, domestic abuse, poverty, drug addiction, and political corruption. Kennedy’s films have appeared on HBO, PBS, Lifetime Television, A&E, Court TV, The Oxygen Network and The Learning Channel. In 1999, Kennedy’s HBO film American Hollow, the story of a tight-knit Appalachian family, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, launching an acclaimed and prolific career and earning Kennedy the first of many Emmy Award® nominations.
MARK BAILEY is an Emmy-nominated writer who has worked on a variety of award-winning film, television, and book projects. Bailey’s documentary films have been broadcast on HBO, Lifetime, Court TV and TLC. He has written feature screenplays for Marvel Studios, New Line, and Showtime, among others. Bailey’s first book, American Hollow, was published by Little, Brown & Co. in 1999. His second book, Hemingway & Bailey’s Bartending Guide to Great American Writers, was published by Algonquin Books in 2006. Bailey’s upcoming children’s book Tiny Pie will be published by Running Press in fall 2012.
AZIN SAMARI has been a documentary editor for over a decade. She’s collaborated extensively with RJ Cutler, and in 2009, she edited his award winning documentary, The September Issue. Azin has also worked with Morgan Spurlock, Marjan Tehrani , and photographer Todd Selby. Currently, Azin is working with Liz Garbus on a new documentary for Moxie Firecracker Films.
JACK YOUNGELSON is an Emmy Award winning documentary film director, producer, and writer. He has collaborated with Rory Kennedy on 5 documentary films, including writer/producer of Ghosts of Abu Ghraib(Primetime Emmy Award winner). He directed Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was distributed by Zeitgeist Films and Sundance Channel. He has also directed and produced numerous high-profile documentary projects for PBS, including episodes of the 6 hour NOVA series, This Emotional Life; African American Lives II, and the upcoming America Revealed series premiering in spring 2012.
